Sciatica
The sciatic nerve is a nerve that extends from the lower part of the spine down into the back of each leg. When this nerve is irritated or damaged, sciatica can occur. Sciatica most frequently consists of pain, weakness or numbness that manifests in the leg. Sciatica is only a symptom of another medical condition, and so finding the root cause of the pain and treating that is crucial to relieving the pain of sciatica.
There are many different conditions that may result in sciatica. These conditions include:
- Herniated Discs
- Bulging Discs
- Injury to the pelvis
- Tumors
When you suffer from sciatica, you may experience pain that worsens at night, after sitting or standing for a period of time or by jerking movements like coughing, laughing or sneezing. This pain may range in severity from a mild tingle to incredible burning.
In order to relieve the pain of sciatica, one must treat the underlying condition. Herniated discs, bulging discs and other conditions that result in sciatica can often benefit from decompression therapy, which relieves pressure from the discs between the vertebra of the spine.
